Frequently asked questions
Is this the same as a discount?
Same formula. The discount calculator also shows the amount saved.
What if I enter more than 100%?
The result will be negative — mathematically valid but rarely meaningful in everyday contexts.
How do I find the original value?
Divide the decreased value by (1 − p/100). $175 after 30% off → original was $250.
Does 25% decrease then 25% increase return to the original?
No. 25% decrease on 100 → 75. 25% increase on 75 → 93.75. Percentage changes are multiplicative.
How is this different from percentage change?
Percentage change measures the relative difference between two values you already have.
